Compare Transfer maid, New maid and Ex singapore maid
SINGAPORE - The number of Foreign Domestic Workers (FDWs) has on a rise every year from 2015 to 2019, except for 2020 amid COVID-19 limiting the numbers of FDWs coming into Singapore.
We find out from several Maid Agencies on how they would recommend and match a Maid to you as they are specialist in this industry.
Here, we present a fair comparion on different types of maid based on our findings.
Which Domestic Helper is a better match for you?
- Transfer Maids currently live in Singapore, are more experienced and mostly can be hired in short notice hence they ask for higher salary and more rest days. A preferred choice for busy families who urgently need a helper with minimal supervision.
- Ex Singapore Maids currently live in her home country. They are similar to Transfer Maid and can have good work experience too. Since Employers are not able to interview them in person and it cost more to bring them back hence they ask for lower salaries, fewer rest days, and some even willing to pay for own air ticket to return to Singapore. It's worth to consider those with good employment history.
- New or Fresh Maids from oversea is a preferred choice for families who are not able to provide all Sundays off and wanting a maid starting from lower salary. However the New Maids usually have NO or LESS working experience hence they will require up to 3~6 months of supervision. So it only works well if someone is regularly at home to give instructions & demonstrations.
- Part Time Maid / Helper is a local, Singaporean, SPR, basically a person who can legally work in Singapore. You usually hire her by the hour or on a short term. It's a preferred choice for families who only need a maid for about 6 months or less. Part Time Helpers are also recommended for Employers who are waiting to bring in the FDW from overseas.
For Live-In Maids, we strongly suggest any families to make adjustment to salaries and rest days during the two years contract. Our survey shows the option of not giving all Sundays off and low wages are not sustainable over the long run. It could be under the influence of social media, comparisons amongst friends, new regulations, and overwhelmed workload affecting the helper to change personality and work productivity.
